Quotations of the Day - Race Relations

"I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain." -James Baldwin

"Everything now, we must assume, is in our hands; we have no right to assume otherwise. If we do not falter in our duty now, we may be able, handful that we are, to end the racial nightmare, and achieve our country, and change the history of the world." -James Baldwin

"It demands great spiritual resilience not to hate the hater whose foot is on your neck, and an even greater miracle of perception and charity not to teach your child to hate." -James Baldwin

  1. wow, this is a hard saying. I think its easier for the talented tenth to be resilient but at what cost. Assimilation caused us to lose self esteem and key positions when we intergrated. Shall we be so hungry for peace we settle. Why is it us black folks always have to be resilient, what about the oppressors, where's their acountability, not just to our race but the human race. All I can say is thank God for race mixing, then the prejudice will be on the defensive, no one then can claim to be a nationalist. My 2 cents
